The City In Between

The City In Between was a two-week project (October 24 – November 7, 2015) at the Defibrillator Performance Art Gallery (Chicago) that included a working installation, a series of performances, and a round table conversation, organized by Didier Morelli. With the body in action as its primary subject, all three events focused on the intersections between performance, the urban environment, and Chicago’s architectural history and present.

Didier Morelli and I explored the intersections between sound and the performing body inside a rented U-haul. The event marked the one-year anniversary of Defibrillator’s move to its new space. Through different recording and emitting devices, we transformed the truck into a reactive and receptive environment to (quite literally) bounce off and reverberate sound. Reflecting on the nature of artistic venues and the impact of artist mobility on the urban fabric, both artists wished to critically engage with the ready-made space of the U-haul as mobile architecture.
